60th wedding anniversary

This cake was for a couple celebrating there 60th wedding anniversary. the cake was modeled after there 1st wedding cake. The cake was vanilla cake with fresh strawberries and cream cheese frosting and the second layer was chocolate cake with chocolate ameretto mousse  ganache filling all covered and decorated with cream cheese frosting. the client love then cake here is the email she sent me the day after: "The cake was BEAUTIFUL and DELISCIOUS.  Everybody loved it.  Thank you so much, it was perfect. " Sue

There is a little story behind the making of this cake...
this was the weekend that i had 3 cakes to due. one friday, one sat, and one sun. Well After i was finished and dropped the first two cakes off i decided to finish the 3rd cake. Its easier for me to have hot spatula to smooth the frosting so like i have done hundred of times before i put a huge cup of water in the microwave and set it on 4 mins so it would be nice and hot. Well 4 mins went by and i pulled the cup out and in went my spatula. Then There went 2 cups of boiling water on my left hand... I dropped the cup and put my hand under cold running water. Well the burn was there.. 1st degree and 2nd degree and honestly the worst pain i have EVER been in. I quickly put the unfinished cake into my fridge call my BFF Kat Who is a wonderful cake decorator and life saver, Explaining my situation she told me she would be over at 8am to finish the cake! AHH what a life saver. I decided to lay on the couch with my hand in a bucket of ice water for the next 36 hours. I called a Dr. and she told me to Ice, elevated and to do hand stretches. Today i'm not in much pain but i'm still very swollen and its a little discolored. healing more and more every day. I guess that was gods way of telling me 3 cakes in the weekend is a little much to do.

What a fun loving couple easy couple to do a cake for. I met this couple through my dog sitter. We meet a couple of months ago with a tasting. They didn't want any berries, fruit or fancy fillings, so it made my tasting very easy. They decided on Vanilla with cream cheese filling, chocolate with chocolate cream cheese frosting and vanilla with ganache frosting. The bride was a little indecisive when it came to the decoration for the cake but the wedding was a starry night theme. She decided to go with a grey cake, blue ribbon and Bright fresh yellow sunflowers. I think it turned out Awesome.

Here is the email i received for Courtney this morning:
Cortney, that cake was BEAUTIFUL! Thank you so much for everything, you've played quite an important role in all our wedding related events! ;) We really appreciate your work, thank you so much!

July 31st, 2010 wedding!!!

I got a phone call in the afternoon 2 weeks ago. I didn't know the number so I let it go straight to voicemail. The message said "Hi my name is Vivian,  I got your name from Pam your family friend. She said that she has the best baker and gave me your number. I would love to order a wedding cake. Our wedding is in 2 weeks. Please contact me." Well after thinking "who orders a cake 2 weeks before the wedding?" I decided to call her back. After many missed calls and messages I finally met up with the couple. Expecting a young couple I was suprised when an 60 + couple answered the door. Being both there 2nd marriage they decided to only have cake, punch, coffee and tea. So no pressure at all! They didn't want anything fancy. Well I started with my normal questions, Where did you meet, how long have you been dating, all the fun stuff i get to learn. They have know each other for many years and met at church. while chatting about wedding related items the phone rang.  Vivian  answered the phone and left the room. John informed me that He had been fighting cancer for the last 9 months. He's been on cemo and radiation since the begining. The doctors told him that he has cancer in his brain and lungs. They gave him 2 months to live. What was 9 months ago and he's still alive and active. Probily the most active older man i know. He bikes from University Place to Puyallup ever day to work. Hasn't missed a day in over 35 years Rain or shine. He said that all of his tumors has shrunk  to almost nothing and that he hasn't told Vivian yet because he was going to tell her on there wedding days during his vows. What a wonderful secret to keep! He loves Vivian so much you can just tell by the way he looks at her.
Once Vivian was back in the conversation we started to talk about cake. With 165 people I decided on 3 tiers. They decided on Chocolate with ganache filling, vanilla with fresh strawberries, and lemon with fresh raspberries. She also needs a gluten free cake for her daughter. All frosted with cream chesse frosting and decorated with all different designs.

This is Why!

So the main reason I have decided to start a blog is because I have met some very interesting people while doing wedding cakes. I have also had some problems with cakes and deliveries. So I thought, "hey I should share my stories."
Everyone of my couples have had wonderful stories and unique styles. A lot of my couples that have had me do there wedding cakes have been friends, coworkers, strangers and some even off of craigslist. I have had different budgets and different personalities and ages. So with the summer season almost 1/2 done and many cakes still on the books I've decided to start my blog with this weekends couple....
